Beijing Guozhihe Innovation and Intellectual Property Institute and Zhuhai MUST Science and Technology Research Institute jointly held the "IP International Standards • Tour of Parks" (Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Session).

On June 2, 2023, the “IP International Standards • Tour of Parks” (Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Station) was held in Hengqin Macao Youth Entrepreneurship Valley, co-hosted by Beijing Guozhihe Innovation and Intellectual Property Institute and Zhuhai MUST Science and Technology Research Institute. Guests included Vice President Jiang Zhihong of MUST, Mr. Huang Zhongjian, Ms. Luo Caiyan, Mr. Li Liangwang, Ms. Zheng Xiaomin, Ms. Deng Wei, Ms. Zhang Qiuyue, Mr. Guo Li, and Ms. Li Jin.

Under the theme “Innovation-led, Protection-empowered: Building a New IP Highland in the Greater Bay Area”, the event invited five speakers to share insights on IP innovation and integrated development in the Greater Bay Area.

In his speech, Director Huang Zhongjian stated that the event aimed to discuss ISO 56005, China’s first international IP standard, to establish an effective IP management system and enhance innovation capacity. The Economic Development Bureau of the Cooperation Zone has been supporting technological innovation and IP protection. It affirmed the contributions of Zhuhai MUST Science and Technology Research Institute to Hengqin’s innovation and economic development. It was hoped that more such intellectual exchange activities would be held in Hengqin and the Greater Bay Area to build consensus on innovation and drive the development of Hengqin and Macao.

Speech by Director Huang Zhongjian

In his address, Vice President Jiang Zhihong noted that MUST has long pursued a strategy of equal emphasis on teaching and research, with continuous breakthroughs in scientific research and industry-university-research collaboration. Leveraging the University’s platform and policy advantages in Hengqin and Macao, Zhuhai MUST Science and Technology Research Institute has actively promoted the effective application of intellectual property in enterprises to jointly build a highland for IP in the Greater Bay Area.

He hoped the event would further explore the practical implementation and promotion of ISO 56005, establish a collaborative platform for innovation and IP management in the Greater Bay Area, raise IP management standards, and support the innovative development of specialized, sophisticated, unique and new SMEs.

Speech by Vice President Jiang Zhihong

During the event, Ms. Zhang Fan interpreted the international standard ISO 56005 Innovation Management — Intellectual Property Management Guidelines, explaining its establishment, content and significance. Dr. Lai Kim Hung shared Hong Kong’s innovation management, quality innovation systems, and the entrepreneurship ecosystem at City University of Hong Kong and Hong Kong Science Park. Associate Professor Yi Zaicheng discussed the resolution of cross-domain standard essential patent disputes, analyzing cases and proposing practical solutions. Mr. Yan Sheng addressed corporate innovation and IP management from the perspective of financing and listing. Mr. Liu Heng introduced the incubation experience of the National Innovation Center for High-Performance Medical Devices, including the world’s first 5T human MRI system.

The roundtable was moderated by Director Li Jin. Ms. Luo Caiyan, Ms. Zhang Fan, Ms. Zhang Qiuyue, Prof. Li Liang of MUST, and other guests held in-depth discussions on ISO 56005 and key IP issues.

The “IP International Standards • Tour of Parks” series was initiated in April 2023 by Beijing Guozhihe Innovation and Intellectual Property Institute. The Greater Bay Area session was co-hosted with Zhuhai MUST Science and Technology Research Institute, and co-organized by the Macao Intellectual Property Service Center of MUST, Macao Intellectual Property Research Association and other partners. The event aims to promote the implementation of ISO 56005 and enhance IP management capabilities of tech enterprises. It has become a key platform for promoting international IP standards, cultivating senior IP management talents, and sharing best practices in intellectual property.
